Growing up in
Colombia
Our grandma and grandpa were always local business owners. The Melao sisters – Angela and Maria, grew up seeing their grandparents negotiate and work from their local farmers market in our hometown of Puerto Tejada.
In the early 1950s, our grandparents started a grocery store that became one of the most popular places for locals to do their food shopping.

The Sisters
As Kids, The Melao Sisters – Angela and Maria, enjoyed eating sugar cane bamboos from the sugar cane fields. Angela created the Sweet Melao brand to produce and commercialize Sweet Melao Sweetener to share its great benefits, delightful taste, and enjoyable flavor with the world.

What We Offer
Social Awareness
SAN ANTONIO AFRICAN AMERICAN COMUNNITY ARCHIVE MUSEUM
The granola campaign aims to support SAAACAM’s efforts to raise capital for the expansion of their facilities by moving into a new building. The agreement is set for a multi-year term, specifically a three-year period.
As part of this initiative, for every box of granola purchased
- Sweet Melao will make a donation of $0.25 to support SAAACAM.
This donation not only demonstrates our commitment to the cause but also allows our customers to actively contribute to preserving and sharing the rich heritage and history of African Americans.
Responsible Sourcing
We source our raw material from local farmers in Colombia who follow ethical and sustainable farming practices. Sweet Melao ensures that the origin of our sugar cane stalk is traceable and transparent throughout the supply chain.
